About The School
Location - Valeau is located on a small island off the coast of Nova Scotia in Canada. The island is unplottable, and also unvisable to Muggles. Students arrive at the school via boat, taking off from the Valeau Harbour, in a small wizarding community on the mainland.
History - The school was founded by Irishman Caradoc Myrddin in 1824. He was a Professor at a small, yet prestigeous wizarding school in Ireland, until the time in which he was forced to leave the school because he became romantically involved with, and eventually married one of his students Vivian Camden who was 17 at the time, whilst Caradoc was 34. Though marriges of this significant age difference were common at the time, it was very ill thought of for a Professor to marry his student, especially one of such social standing and wealth as Vivian Camden, the heiress to a large fortune. Vivian and Caradoc ran away together to the 'New World' in North America, eventually settling in a small Muggle Colony in the Maritimes of Canada. Though Vivian and Caradoc were now married, and happily living the life of the local school master and his wife, Caradoc missed the wizarding world, and his roll at Defense Against the Dark Arts Professor. Eventually, Vivian suggested to Caradoc that they start their own school here in the Maratimes, Canada, at that point had no magical school and wizarding children were sent to a small school in Colorado to be taught, a long and costly trip.
Eventually, quite by accident, Caradoc and Vivian discovered the island on which they would later locate Valeau. After getting caught in a storm and thrown off course on a night time boating trip (which Vivian quite enjoyed) they stumbled upon Valeau island, where they stayed the night. The following morning Caradoc found the ruins of an ancient Midevial castle on the island, that appeared to have been forgotten about many years ago, but even more strange was that the castle had the remenents of a very ancient magic inprinted on it. Vivian and Caradoc both agreed that they'd found the perfect place for their school, and set about casting Muggle-repelling charms on the island, and a few months later, making the castle usable again.
Valeau Academy of the Magical Arts officially opened it's doors on August 12th 1824, and since then, has become one of the most well-respected magic academys in all of North America.
Sorting & Housing - Students are sorted into their house by a room known as the Chamber of the Past. In the chamber, the souls and minds of all the previous Headmasters and Mistresses are preserved and they sort the students when the step into the room. The Chamber of Past is also used in times of trouble for the school and is often consulted by the currents Headmaster or Mistress.
The Houses that students are sorted into are Myrddin, Deaglan, Ceallach and Lennox. The names of the people involved in the founding of Valeau. Of course, the convinently left out Vivian Camden. But by that point she was a Myrddin anyway.
Myrddin is a house that prizes qualities such as courage, honesty, and determination.
Deaglan prizes intelligence, subtlety and tact.
Ceallach prizes fairness, tradition and loyalty.
Lennox prizes creativily, ambition and open-mindedness.
Classes Offered - Required Classes: History of Magic, Charms, Transfiguration, Potions and Defense Against the Dark Arts.
Elective and Advanced Classes: Herbology, Flying, Spell Creation (6 and 7th years only), Magic Theory (only 5th years and above) Care of Magical Creatures and Healing
Regulation Robes: The regulation robes for Valeau are deep red in the traditional europeen style (similar to regulation Hogwarts robes). Under their robes students are allowed to wear their own casual dress, Valeau disbanded the uniform rule in the early 1970's.

How It Works - This is how the RPG works. You post a message to the board describing your characters action and reactions to other characters. Wait until somebody replies to your post and then post back! Easy enough, huh? If you still don't get it - lurk a little and watch how the current players do it. We ask that you make it clear when your character is speaking. Use quotes "" to denote dialogue
And try to be clear about their actions as well. Some people like to put their actions like so *Rayna laughs at Larry's joke* or like so ::Rayna is laughing so hard she has begun to cry, destroying any semblance of grace and poise the she might have had:: Either, or none, of these are fine.
Don't play other peoples characters unless given permission by the player. Don't kill other peoples characters. You'll piss me off, you'll piss the character's player off and you'll get kicked out of the RPG.
Cussing - I don't care if you or your character cusses. Cussing doesn't bother me at all. Just don't make every other word out of your characters mouth swearing. Ok? Just use them sparingly. If you have a problem with this philosophy and want to drop the f-bomb every other word, I'm sorry, but that's how it is. Get over it.
PDA - boy-girl, boy-boy, or girl-girl. And I don't mind a little PDA (Public Display of Affection). Hand-holding, hugging, snuggling and kissing are fine. Just don't play out make-out sessions or the big scary 'S' word...sex. This isn't a porno RPG. So don't post it. I'll delete it and kick you out.
